VFA-242 “VANGUARDS” NOW RECRUITING
Dear Aviators,
As summer draws to a close, the 13th Virtual Air Command is preparing to resume full operations and begin its first structured training cycle.
We are now recruiting F/A-18C pilots for VFA-242 “Vanguards.”
VFA-242 is the Hornet squadron of the 13th VAC, focused on realistic carrier aviation, disciplined tactical flying, and coordinated multiplayer operations. Our aim is not to imitate every line of real-world bureaucracy, but to create an immersive environment where preparation, teamwork, and good airmanship matter.
New pilots will progress through a structured IQT and MQT training programme, covering areas such as:
Aircraft handling and formation flying
Carrier qualifications and Case I, II, and III operations
Air-to-air and air-to-ground employment
Navigation, communications, and tactical procedures
Mission planning and multi-ship coordination
Combined operations with other 13th VAC squadrons and supporting units
You do not need to arrive as a Hornet expert. We are looking for mature, dependable pilots who are willing to learn, practise between events, and contribute to the squadron. Real-world aviation or military experience is welcome, but certainly not required. If you want to be part of building a new squadron and help shape the end product, you've come to the right place.
Our first training cycle will begin shortly, with regular flying planned throughout the autumn.
Pilots interested in joining should create an account, join our Discord, and post a short introduction describing their DCS experience, preferred flying times, and what they are looking for in a virtual squadron.
The deck is being cleared, the aircraft are being prepared, and the Vanguards are ready to fly.
Welcome aboard.
